Einsturzende Neubauten - Live At Rockpalast

Outstanding show on DVD and CD
This is an excellent concert from Neubauten in their prime, with Chung and Einheit still in the band, recorded after Hause der Luege and before Tabula Rasa. It's not clear from the product description, but the second disc is a CD of the performance. The CD alone would make this a major EN release; having the high-quality video is fantastic. The video is a bit soft, being from an old TV show, but it's still fine; I can't speak to the sound on the DVD as I haven't a sound system on my DVD player. The CD sound is not stellar but is not bad--fine for a decades-old TV performance. Many of the pieces come off far better than their studio versions. (Feurio comes to mind--I always found it boring on CD but it is extremely and wonderfully noisy here.) Since EN's shows were somewhat free-form, it's a treat to hear it all. Hellishly noisy, which of course I mean in a good way. Anyone with the slightest appreciation of EN should order this today. If you have doubts, see the video of Yu Gung here:...

Strange and interesting... for fans. NOT a good introduction to the band.
If you've never heard this band before, do not start here. Buy "Haus der Luege" instead first. "Ende Neu", "Tabula Rasa" and "Silence is sexy" may also be good beginnings.

This is a live concert in the "Haus der Luege" era, which is my favorite Neubauten album.
It's wonderful to see how they play their "instruments" live. Their performance is superb!

However, they sound much "noisier" than in studio versions. "Feurio!" was originally their most accessible song and here it actually sounds unbearable. Had they simply removed that guitar, it would actually be very nice, but it just didn't fit. It may well have been intentional, but, to my taste, at least, it didn't work at all.

The other tracks are quite all right. They sounded much better in studio and the CD is not something I'll play often at all. But the DVD is quite worth it, since their performance is visually powerful.

Albeit beautiful, the cardboard case in which it comes is not...

Celts: Rich Traditions & Ancient Myths

A good overview of Celtic History
I have watched this 3 video set more than once and always find something new. The host is excellent. I would wish that there was more emphasis placed on ancient Celts and their religion, and legends than on modern day ones and their problems of keeping an ethnic heritage alive, yet it is good see that they are meeting with some success in this area. The movie also focuses on all Celtic cultures, rather than the stereotypical focus of Irish and Scots as being all there is. Enya provided the musical background and of course her music along is evocative both of past and modern Celtic culture. On the whole, enjoyable and informative.

"The Celts" is the most informative video on Celt. Civ. ever
Delany's "The Celts" gives an in depth view on Celtic civilization from past to present. It shows culture, history, music and language and the struggles of the Celtic people to find their identity. It covers all genres of the culture and is beautifully written. This collection contains a wealth of information and is probably one of the best sources of information on the Celts ever. The music and scenery alone are worth the purchase!

The best documentary on the Celts!!
I have watched this set MANY, MANY times since I got it 2 years ago. I never get tired of it. I turn it on whenever I'm bored with TV. It has given me insight into some of the things I've read about the Celts, historically and fictionally. Enya's music is wonderful, as always. This is a must have for any Celt or ancient British Isles enthusiast!

As Goes Janesville

Great inside look into politics
Helped explain a lot of things. Exceptionally well done documentary. Well edited also. Worth watching if you are interested in politics or sociology.

Absolutely Interesting! Must See.
As goes Janesville is an exceptionally good film. The film makers paint a portrait of the painful predicament facing about 90% of America today: is the American Dream gone? Is it deferred? The film hints at some of the root causes but doesn't hit you over the head. The working class women at the center of the story are incredible humans, as so many women trying to make ends meet are. I highly recommend this film.

OK
It was a documentary of the war in Wisconsin. I was very much part of this war and found it OK from a different view point.

Billy Connolly's Route 66 [Blu-ray]

A Great celebration of Americana
Billy Connolly has such obvious affection for U.S. culture that this documentary couldn't fail to be a treat to watch. Starting his journey in Chicago, he takes a leisurely trip through the States on his way toward California, always making time to highlight the many charms of Route 66: not just the obvious landmarks, but plenty of fascinating places that lie just off the beaten track. He really does justice to the wide open spaces, the cultural riches and the engineering marvels of the American past and present. Connolly's enthusiasm is such that if you've never travelled Route 66, this series will make you want to seek out each and every sight for yourself. Not to be missed.

Love Seeing America through an English Man's Eyes
My husband and I really enjoyed watching Billy Connolly's journey across America on Route 66. It is refreshing to see America from the prospective of a non-american's point of view. We got excited and wanted to take our own trip across America on the "Mother Road" after watching Billy's adventures! Thanks Billy, for reviving our interest in touring America !

Wrong Format
I made the mistake of not reading the fine print. It looks as though this disc is from the U.K. and so the format is not compatible with a lot of players in North America. It does not work in my PS3 nor in my friend`s BluRay player. The main menu will come up, but you can not get the movie to play, nor can you play the episodes separately. I recommend making sure you have a player that will play all regions for Blu Rays if you order.

Monster Truck Adventures: Straight to the Finish

Fast shipping!
Awesome service every thing was straight to the point and received shipment very fast and prompt. My kid loves the DVD and I love it also because it is Christian based unlike 99% of cartoons these days. Probably will buy another one soon.

My 3 year old son gives this an A+
I bought this movie for my son because of his love of monster trucks. He asks to watch this movie everyday! It was a major hit with him! : )

Farewell, My Queen

The Moral Disintegration of the Palace of Versailles at the Moment of Revolution
We have all wanted, at some point in our lives, to be a fly on the wall at a moment of historical significance. The fly - this time - is a servant to Queen Marie Antoinette played magically by Lea Seydoux. The entire film revolves around "her" point of view.

Sidonie Laborde reads books to the Queen and is summoned at all hours of night and day to respond to Marie Antoinette's whims. It is apparent that Sidonie, a naive girl, has a schoolgirl crush on the Queen but is emotionally hurt by the fact that her majesty is in thrall to another beautiful woman, la Duchess de Polignac. There is a telling scene where Sidonie opens the chamber of la Duchesse when the other is fast asleep and nude, and she examines the woman from almost a clinical perspective - trying to understand where is the charm? But the love triangle takes second place to the reality of the urgent news that the Bastille Prison has just been stormed by the people of Paris and its jailer mutilated by the mob...

A View From The Outside: A Fascinating Peek Into The Last Days Of Marie Antoinette's Court
There was a subtle power to "Farewell, My Queen" that completely snuck up on me. I lead with this statement because I'm not often surprised by movies. As I was enjoying Benoit Jacquot's portrait of the last days of Marie Antoinette's court, I was admiring the staging, the performances, and the lush settings. Jacquot places everything through the eyes of one of Antoinette's ladies-in-waiting. As she catches glimpses of the court in turmoil and the escalating political tensions, so do the viewers. As it is constructed, I felt like a voyeur to the unfolding drama--a partner, of sorts, to the lead character. As such, "Farewell, My Queen" is less of a historical recounting of the events in question as it is a peek behind the curtain. This approach lends an unpredictability to a somewhat familiar subject. Even though I have seen dozens of dramatizations of Antoinette, this one seemed remarkably fresh as it was only peripherally about the central subject. It does, at times, seem...

Beautifully shot - but emotionally distant - recreation of French palace life on the eve of revolution

Merlin: The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray]

"He is Your Destiny, and he is Your Doom..."
This is going to a rather odd review considering that season four of "Merlin" has the very best and worst that the show has to offer. On the one hand, it has some of the most sophisticated storylines, the highest production values and the strongest performances from its young cast that have thus far featured on the show. There is also far less filler (a great improvement on the last season, which seemed to be composed almost entirely of padding) and greater care taken with continuity and overarching plot-threads. On the other hand, it still suffers from the usual problems: a lack of meaningful character development, the irritating marginalization of its two female characters, and its stubborn refusal to let Merlin finally reveal his magical abilities to Arthur.

To recap this review in a nutshell: the first half of this season is the best that "Merlin" has ever been - but the second half falls apart, leading to an entirely lackluster finale. If you're not in the mood to read...

Merlin, Arthur & the Sword in the Stone

TYSM BBC!
Attention U.S. television producers; The BBC proves once again that Yes, it is possible to make a show that doesn't include tons of sex innuendo, bleeped or un-bleeped profanity, graphic, criminal violence, degrading and obnoxious humor and yet remain utterly appealing to adults. What Merlin does have is heroes and villains, magic and monsters, epic battles, exciting adventures... in other words just a great fantasy show set in an Arthurian milieu (kinda like Harry Potter meets Excalibur).

Currently in its fourth season, this series isn't losing an ounce of momentum, on the contrary it has even greater potential for future seasons, particularly when you realize that the setting thus far has been limited to a relatively small geographical sphere. Not to mention that these characters have the potential to become more interesting as they continue to age which is the exact opposite of most series that attempt to keep their main stars perpetually young. Oh and ya, this show...

Story of Math Collection

Enlightening
My husband is always talking about how everything in life can be explained by math. He believes the secret to life is just a math equation. I used to think he was just babbling, until I watched this three part documentary. I have never been very good with math, but you don't have to be wiz to follow along with this mini series. This set describes numbers and patterns in ways that the layman can understand. And while you might think it would be as boring as sitting through a college lecture, it really isn't. This DVD set held my attention and taught me things about the world I live in that I never knew. I feel like I have a deepened awareness of the magic of math, and I'm so glad I had a chance to watch these fantastic DVDs.

Great collection!
This collection of math stories is great. I have spent some time creating worksheets for the different episodes to help my H.S. students follow along, so I may be watching it a little differently than most. It is very informative, has special effects, and takes time to explain some of the math or the ways people use to do math. I would recommend.

Easy to Follow
My students were very engaged by "The Code". All were very interesting programs in an easy to understand format. They were a bit lengthy though.

2012 Global Tour Live: New Evolution in Seoul

DVD 2NE1 live in Seoul Korea
Awesome DVD wish i had bought it sooner. Just to long to get in thee mail, but the wait was worth it. ..>_<..

Awesome DVD of 2NE1 First Global Concert in 2012
Received this order from the South Korean seller within 9 days!!!
The concert's audio is outstanding & you can see alot of energy on stage.
You will not be dissappointed in this DVD. Can't wait to see how far 2NE1 goes in the U.S. music industry!!!

2NE1 is the Best
This is the best concert I've ever watched. 2NE1 sounds amazing live and CL has charisma for miles. In a way CL carries the whole concert, she's dancing, rapping, singing, and never sounds off or looks tired the entire time. Her presence just demands your full attention. I'm not a Blackjack but I was sooooo impressed by this concert. The only slight complaint is the packaging which looked a bit cheap in my opinion. I also bought the BigBang Alive Concert DVD and it had way nicer packaging. The 2NE1 girls deserve just as much love and attention as BigBang. They're certainly no less talented. If you only buy one 2012 concert DVD BUY THIS ONE.

Hwaiting 2NE1!!

10CC - In Concert

10cc--"In Concert"--Dvd/Bonus Features
If you got the Reunion Dvd from last year. This Dvd is most of all that--But it has more to it.
Part of another show--w/Kevin Godley coming on Stage--first time in 30 plus years??/something
like that. Plus--during one of the shows--I didn't know that Graham Gouldman--wrote songs for
the Hollies/Yardbirds--etc. Which they play during one of the shows. So if your a fan, This
is worth picking up--since there aren't many 10cc dvd's out there. Plus one of the bonus features
with now the late Storm Thorgerhson--talks about the band and the album covers he did for them.
So if your a fan, and since there isn't a lot of footage out there of the band. This is worth picking up.
Next for me--is the 10cc box set--"Tenology"--which has a dvd with it as well.

I loved it immediately
10cc has been around a while and they have a lot of really great material. The audio and video quality of this release is very very good. I only wish it had been released as a Blu-Ray. It certainly deserves that treatment. Still, the DVD's quality is as good as that format gets.

The guys perform most of their best material and they don't show their age. The quality of their musicianmanship and singing is all top notch!

If this is released on Blu-Ray, I'll buy it again. You should too!

Great 10 CC Concert!
Great Concert!
Best that I expected
Good performances, A wonderfull surprise that they a lot of songs for groups as The Hollies... Great valué DVD

True Nature

True Nature
I found the movie to be suspenseful, although I guessed the outcome half way through. It was a movie that could be called "supernatural", but basically it was about the corruption of the soul. Nothing hair raising, just a character study of a well to do family that was bankrupt where it counts the most. Some family members were rather nasty. The acting was pretty good, but I would not actually buy the movie. Renting it was the best choice for me anyway.

A DISH SERVED LUKE WARM
TRUE NATURE ---a really weak title by the way --- is a slow moving tale of retribution that ultimately suffers from its lethargy and predictability.
In a rather condensed nutshell, the plot follows a young girl who vanishes one night and shows uo a year later, not knowing where she's been. Thanks to some early hints, it's fairly obvious where the movie's heading. The sole recognizable actor is Law & Order;s Dr. Olivet (Carolyn McCormick) who plays the victim's over-protective mother. The overall performances are typical of this kind of flick and it does manage to hold your attention although its abrupt predictable ending is disappointing. Rent, don't buy!

THE ART OF THE SLOW BURN
I've commented before about what I call the MTV generation. This is a group of film goers who have no patience when it comes to movies. They want the information thrown at them immediately, they want it NOW! Because of this attitude they don't have time for movies that offer what I call the slow burn. These are films that give you pieces of the story, that take their time in allowing you to absorb what is going on rather than just rush into it in the first 5 minutes of the movie. The best thing about these movies is that when done well they are quite enjoyable.

Consider the films of Hitchcock. Even in a film like PSYCHO, his most popular film, you don't have the true gist of the story until 30 minutes into the film. You get glimpses of what is to come, you get set up for what is going to come, and you get involved with the characters. He did this in most of his films. Alas I don't think today's generation would have the patience to sit through an entire Hitchcock film...

It's in the Bag [Blu-ray]

And on top there should be a cherry.............maraschino
Addendum 6/8/13: This new Blu-Ray reissue IS the preferred non-voiceover version, read on.

Where to start? First, there are two versions of this hysterical farce but one of the versions is severely hampered by Fred Allen's voice overs through many of the best comedy segments. The other, and I'm guessing, "original" version involves no voice overs and this version is an unmitigated classic for which we can give a big thank you to producer Jack Skirball.

It's in the Bag is one of the screwiest comedies ever. It's the story of Fred F. Floogle(Fred Allen)an unsuccessful flea circus exhibitor and his madcap family; devoted and wholly unsatisfied wife Eve(Binnie Barnes), soon-to-be-bride daughter Marion(Gloria Pope) and genius son Homer(Richard Tyler)who is given many of the best lines though there are zillions of funny lines and millions of gags in this one-of-a-kind romp. Exterminator(Robert Benchley)is determined to not let his son Perry Parker(William Terry) marry...

One of Radio's better Movies
There have been numerous attempts at fashioning movie vehicles for radio stars:most of them failed to work,or work consistently well, but It's In The Bag is something of an exception.Starring Fred Allen-who had a great face for radio-and featuring cameos from Jack Benny,Robert Benchley,Don Ameche,Rudy Valee, and William Bendix, this is a simple,plot-driven movie packed full with in-jokes and tried-and-tested routines.Mel Brooks would return to the source material - a Russian short story - for the 1970 movie The Twelve Chairs, but the pretentiousness of that version is missing here.If you like Benny(who is on fine form) and Allen(who is at his most appealing,or least unappealing, depending on your perspective)then It's In The Bag is well worth a look.

It's in FRED's Bags!
It's a shame that only a chosen few REALLY KNOW who Fred Allen is. In the 1940's his popularity was that of names we still cite today - Jack Benny, Abbott & Costello, etc.

But in his day Fred's radio program was incredibly popular, as well as his "fued" with Jack Benny. If you love old radio, or old time comedy you will enjoy IT'S IN THE BAG. Fred Allen was, as still is, one of the smartest writers of comedy there was - even today great legends such as Mel Brooks and George Carlin cite his influence.

One drawback with the film is that to get all the jokes you will need to be familiar with "the age" when the film was released since some of Fred's jokes are dated (commentary about crowded theaters comes to mind), but some of the jokes are just as fresh today as they were 56 years ago (commentary on how relatives get in the picture, why do we need to watch credits, psychoanalists, etc.)

In some ways it's a very "da-da-ist" film -as in the vein of...

Jackie Chan: Crime Story / The Protector [Blu-ray]

On this DVD
A number of reviewers have commented that you can get the Chan version of the Protector with the other two movies. That would apply only to the Blue Ray. For the regular DVD shown above, you will only have the two movies with the Protector in the original U.S. release and then a dubbed version of Crime Story. Look elsewhere for the better Chan versions.

Jackie on Blu-ray is worth the price
It has been so difficult to find good copies of older Jackie Chan films that I welcome any blu-ray versions at all. That being said, this blu-ray is definitely better than any other version of these films, including the original Hong Kong DVDs, which I have--just don't expect miracles, because film preservation has never been a priority in Hong Kong, and the makers of the blu-ray, while they did adequate "clean-up," are not exactly the Criterion Collection (but then, it's not as pricey as CC releases, either). My only wish is that they had not squeezed what is essentially three films onto one disc, although blu-ray technology has enough "room" in its info code to do that. The disc contains "Crime Story" with a choice of soundtracks (including English dubbed for wimps) and subtitles, the original American release of "The Protector," and, in its bonus features, Jackie Chan's Hong Kong version of that film, which is the only thing that makes even having...

Caters to the more adult side of Jackie Chan
Hearing about how bad the image quality was on the Jackie Chan 4 Film Collection released a little over a year ago was enough to at least make even the most diehard Jackie Chan fans a little skeptical when it came to Shout! Factory's Jackie Chan double feature of "Crime Story" and "The Protector." Surely this would be a similar result since Echo Bridge Home Entertainment crammed four films onto one Blu-ray disc while Shout! Factory managed to pack three ("Crime Story," "The Protector," and the alternate cut/Hong Kong version/Jackie Chan's personal cut of "The Protector") onto one disc. Speaking as a massive Jackie Chan fan, receiving this product resulted in a plethora of emotions. Having never seen "Crime Story" or "The Protector," the opportunity to review this Blu-ray threw these two unseen films within an arm's reach and the excitement to see both suddenly skyrocketed. But the quality was bound to be terrible or they had to put the wrong versions of the films on here or something...

His Needs, Her Needs: Building an Affair-Proof Marriage

Wow, better than a dozen others!
I have watched, attended and reviewed many marriage improvement sessions. This one is excellent. It has easy to follow action items, including things to talk about - and things to do - to make a relationship closer. The theme is that nobody who is "in love" ever wants to leave their spouse or stays mad at them for long. This series actually teaches you how to fall back in love with your spouse. How many marriages could be saved if everyone who had problems tried this! It is truly remarkable.

My daughter and her husband missed their opportunity to use this dvd
My husband read the book after his first failed marriage. He loved it. He is a great husband because he takes the time to do the research. I bought this for my daughter and her husband. By the time she received it their relationship was too far gone to repair it. They tried reading the five love languages before receiving this dvd, but couldn't communicate well enough to make it worth their while. By the time they got the dvd, their opportunity to try to make things better had passed. I would suggest using this dvd during the good times of the marriage in order to avoid the pitfalls that marriages can fall into.

Great DVD
I had the book his needs her needs recommended to me by my friend who is a marriage counselor. After reading the book I decided to purchase the DVD so that my husband could get the information. I love this author and use the DVDs along with the workbook.

great surprise as i thought i was seeing a David Koechner comedy & it turned into a thriller with constant twist & turns
Ending was a total surprise

A new angle on Weddings
A new angle on weddings from a new director, "Wedding Day" follows multiple storylines weaving from past to present in a single day as different destines all play out at the same time. Alternately dark and joyous, the excellent cast fits smoothly into their roles and interactions, while first rate post production contributes a textured flow building to a surprising climax

Great Thriller.
Overall great thriller with good directing and likeable characters. Well written story line. A must see! ... 4 star rating.

Trust [Blu-ray]

One of the five best films ever made!
Hal Hartley's simple, brilliant masterpiece. Martin Donovan should have won an oscar for his performance as Matthew Slaughter. All the characters are written to perfection, and they complement each other perfectly. The film is as sad as it is hilarious (there are some 50 lines of dialogue that are worth quoting here). Matthew Slaughter's character is made all the more real by the ending. As an "empiricist" who doesn't believe in love, he can only understand what it is (love) once things turn in the wrong direction for him. The love between him and Maria Coughlin (Adrienne Shelly) is not one of those stuffy Hollywood romances, but a simple trust and understanding between two individuals (admiration, respect, trust equal love!). Further complicating matters between them are their downright sinister parents; Matthew's father beats him, while Maria's mother blames her for the death of her father. Simple, intricate, funny, sad, and filled with nuggets of...

Truly amazing, deserves better support from its Studio
This movie is considered the best Hal Hartley ever, even if some Hal Hartley aficionados may prefer Surviving Desire or Simple Men, But TRUST is the movie that grabs even non fans. As why it is not released in the US is hard to understand. I'm from the UK and Have to buy low quality region 1 DVDs as they are not released in the UK. this one is interesting as it is an Australian PAL import, so I get the better quality video. If you are a US Resident, do not worry, PAL video is better, each frame of film equals a frame of video, it runs at 25 frames per second and it has more pixels per frame, so you are watching a more film like experience. Regions on DVDs are just another bad idea from the Hollywood studios, but 90% of european DVD players are region free and if you look for your DVD model on the web, I am sure you will find a code to "region Free" it. as why the rights owner doesn't release all Hal Hartley movies in all countries, it is another story.

Black Humor, White Trash
If you like John Waters films (particularly "Female Trouble" and "Pink Flamingos") but were disappointed that they didn't quite clear the hurdle to being funny, then "Trust" is for you.

"Trust" is the follow-on to "The Unbelievable Truth," and features many of the same actors and themes. "The Unbelievable Truth," however, is a screwball romantic comedy, while "Trust" is flat-out black humor. If you're planning to watch both, watch "The Unbelievable Truth" first.

I spent the first half of "Trust" laughing, but wondering whether Hal Hartley intended it to be funny. By the end, it becomes clear that he did; this is one very funny film.

George O'Brien 3-Film Collection

George O'brien 3-Film Collection.
George O'brien had a fine career in movies. He gained fame in John Ford's silent epic, The Iron Horse. He also starred in one of the last great silent films, Sunrise, which was not a western. In the 30's he starred in some of the best low budget westerns made, for Fox and RKO. This set contains 3 good examples of his work. especially "The Marshall of Mesa City." The transfers are very good, and the films are enjoyable. His films were not just for "front row" kids but had qualities for adults. As usual, service from Amazon is the best.

Battle for Brooklyn

Informative
Sometimes winning doesn't mean getting the prize. Sometimes winning means knowing that you fought for what's right. This is a story that must be told again and again if anyone is to ever feel safe owning their own home.
My only criticism is that in documentary format I personally prefer the style which has more sit down interviews with players in the story to narrate details of the events.
There is a saying that goes something like this, "The more enemies and the stronger they are, the more honor there is when you fight them." If that's true, then the focus of this story is about a very honorable family. Shame on the rest of us for allowing this to happen.

Excellent documentary
This is an excellent documentary on the last holdout in the battle against New York's Brooklyn Atlantic Yards development, with much insight into how political forces cunningly manage to ride roughshod over neighborhoods and neighborhood constituencies. For anyone involved in the fight against the ruthless overdevelopment of The Bloomberg Years in New York City, or interested in that ongoing history, this is necessary viewing.

Important filmmaking
This movie chronicles the Atlantic Yards debacle, which occurred in my Brooklyn neighborhood. It covers something like eight years from proposal to groundbreaking on a project that was beyond a sweetheart deal, in which blocks of private housing was deemed "blighted" and basically given to a developer, played here by the evil Bruce Ratner. If you care about eminent domain abuse and the prevalence of backroom dealings among the powerful, where ever you live this is an important manual. See this movie!

Blood C: Complete Series (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

pretty good
As someone who actually bought the anime and actually have it on hand, I can honestly say it's not a bad show. A lot of people are complaining about censorship when they only watched it streamed and not the actual blu ray. That's like complaining about how horrible the quality of the show was on the internet stream and not actually watching the blu ray release. What makes Blood C different from Blood (which I didn't care for) and Blood + (which I enjoyed) is that this one was produced by Production IG and Clamp while Blood and Blood + were produced by Production IG and Aniplex. If you like Clamp, then more than likely you will like Blood C, if you don't, then you probably won't. The same tall, lanky, long legged characters are all here and it does feel like you're watching more of Card Captor Sakura than an actual Blood anime. I like Clamp so this didn't bother. The production value is high and the artworks are gorgeous. This series is only 12 episodes so it's not very long. About 75%...

Not the best "Blood" animated series made...it was average at best.
Back in 2000, the animated film "Blood: The Last Vampire" was released in theaters and released in the United States.

The animated film set in 1966 was focused on a vampire named Saya who hunts down bat-like creatures known as chiropterans. The animated film would eventually lead to a manga series "Blood: The Last Vampire 2000″ and three Japanese light novels plus a video game.

In 2005, a 50-episode anime series titled "Blood+", an alternate timeline would be featured and would focus on an amnesiac named Saya Otanashi who lives the life of an ordinary school girl. Until she is attacked by a Chiropteran and finds out that she somehow can fight against them and is the only one that can defeat them. This leads to a storyline with Saya, her family and friends trying to rid the world of the Chiropteran and her starting to remember her history.

In 2011, a new anime and manga series was created by this time by the famous manga creators, CLAMP. The...

Movie coming..
So with all the reviews that are out there so far, I can't help but notice that nobody has really said anything about the movie. Now perhaps I am wrong but what I have read about the movie (it hasn't been subbed as far as I know) is that it picks up right after the last episode. So it really seems that despite the series lacking in story line or any of the other issues that it does have, I am not fighting that, it seems that CLAMP is trying to do what Blood the Last Vampire didn't do, which is to give you that back story. And that is the way I have seen Blood C going. I watched it knowing that it was more or less a pre-story for the movie and while it is gory (someone said it was like Elfen Lied, it is that gory but not as.. revealing if you catch my drift) and there are the highschool drama moments (which Blood+ did have a few though they were more teenager drama) I think it was still pretty good. I guess the difference is how I watched it knowing the movie was coming instead of just...

DVD from Warner Archive is beautifully remastered in widescreen.
Lovely Old Tuscon locations help a lot too.
A well worn trail worth riding down.

Entertaining Taylor Western
Robert Taylor was nearing the end of his trail when he made Return of The Gunfighter, but it is a solid, decent western.

Taylor plays Ben Wyatt, a legendary gunfighter just out of prison after serving time for a killing that he did not commit. He is sent for by an old friend who is being harassed into giving up his land. By the time Wyatt makes it to his friend's house, his friend and his friend's wife are dead, and their daughter is in hiding. Taylor takes it upon himself to protect the daughter and avenge his friend's murder.

Lyle Bettger is his usually despicable self playing the villain, and Chad Everett provides fine support as Bettger's brother, who crossed paths with Wyatt without knowing that Wyatt is after his brother.

Return of the Gunfighter is not spectacular, but it is enjoyable on its own merits.

Good western.
Who cares if this was a made for TV western. Robert Taylor was getting on in years and playing an ageing gunfighter when he made this. He was perfect for the role as he still looked quite good physically. Taylor plays his part well and is a standout in a good cast. This is a good print with a good soundtrack. The scenery is typical of the westerns of the time. All in all a good western and well worth a look.

Shamanic Princess

I don't think it's incoherent
I've heard reviews from both the Amazon raters and from the Anime Encyclopedia claiming that this film is convoluted and incoherent. I checked it out anyway and decided they were wrong here (though they were right about Maze, it stunk) as I had no trouble following the plot. As I watched though, I found that there were several tricks to following the action. First, you need to learn to filter flashbacks and mirages from the current events. Second, you need a basic grasp of Eastern philosophy, particularly Taoism. Third, you have to understand that the last episodes were flashbacks. It's pretty easy to follow actually, even easier than A Man Called Hero.

PLEASE BUY THIS ANIME!!!!
I bought this anime yesterday and I watched four times.I didn't really expect it to be this good. Tiara, a princess with awesome shamanic powers is determined to retrieve the THORNE OF YORD, a talisman.By disguising as a high school girl, she bumps into Lena, her ex-partener.In between the storyline,Tiara and Lena ally and fight with each other. Both women can transform into demonic figures that have awesome ablities. If you love action/adventure anime, Buy this one!

A little known anime makes a big impact
Wow. I didn't expect SP to be quite this good. I had read that some people found it confusing or disliked the way the story was laid out and was worried that, even though I was interested enough to purchase it, I would end up not watching it much.

What did I worry for?

The artwork and direction comes from the same people who brought you Magic Knight Rayeart and Outlaw Star, respectively. Though the big "anime eyes" are a bit larger than normal in this series, the characters and scenery are extremely detailed and the voice acting flows with events very well (on both parts, actually).

As far as the story, I really liked it. Of course, this is coming from someone who thoroughly enjoyed Evangelion and LAIN, despite having to think about things a bit. Sure, as people have noted, the last two episodes basically do belong at the beginning of the DVD, but it doesn't take long after the first episode starts to piece together what is going on. Tiara, the "main...

Great Movie
I first watched this movie when I was about ten. If you liked Tron, then you would like this. It has a killer ending to boot, the kind of twists that you don't see in the high action movies today.

But they dressed her funny
This is a harmless little sci-fi for pre-teens that mom and dad can scan at any time and see no sex and only a touch or two of violence grace the screen. The plot and pseudo-science are of the leave-your-brain-at-home variety while the graphics are nothing special. The direction is slow, clear and undistinguished. The photography is pedestrian, but not bad. The cast is cute, led by the beautiful Megan Ward.

She is demure and fully clothed as a teenaged heroine who saves her boy friend and pals from an evil virtual-reality game gone amuck. The fact that she was 23-years-old at the time and a little too old for the part did not bother me at all. Her fresh face and great beauty allowed me to watch the whole thing!

The once vampish Sharon Farrell has a small part as the star's mom which she plays flawlessly with just a touch of irony.

AWESOME 1993 SCI FI FILM
EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK THIS MOVIE OUT!! I REMEMBER WATCHING IT YEARS AND YEARS AGO ON THE SCI FI MOVIE CHANNEL, IT'S STILL AWESOME!

Pokemon Is Amazin
This Series Sounds Good Too Bad I missed it when it was on TV but thats why we have DVD's of it, and why do they never release Pokemon seasons in the UK but oh well still looking forward to it a lot.

Ash's Unova Adventure Continues
Like the previous set, Pokemon Black and White set 2 contains 12 episodes. The DVD set is collected in a nice neat case once again. Its the perfect item for Pokemon collectors, although the Unova episodes seem to target a younger audience. Many experienced Pokemon fans will probally hope for more than what is on this set. The episode plots may seem familiar because some of them were used in other Pokemon seasons.
However, this set does please many Pokemon fans. Unlike the previous set of episodes, this set contains 2 gym battles. The first disc has Ash facing Lenora who uses normal Pokemon; the second disc contains the battle with Burgh. While Ash is busy meeting new Pokemon and battling tough openents, Team Rocket is still involved in mysterious undercover missions. Overall, these episodes target a younger generation of Pokemon fan. Older Pokemon fans will be left wanting...

Average Movie....Terrible DVD
I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid and wanted to see it again now. I bought the DVD which says its an all region compatible disc. The conversion to DVD though is very bad as everything is so dark and the view looks like it's been copied ten times from a VHS tape. Other than that it's the same movie you may remember.

The Seven-Per-Cent Solution (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

7% on demand
The reviews here can be confusing as they probably apply to other DVD versions of the film. This new on demand edition is in fact letterboxed and looks like the correct aspect ratio. Image quality may not be Criterion level but is very good, and given that this very enjoyable movie has been hard to get for years we are not complaining.

Blu-ray edition of Seven-Per-Cent Solution
Fantastic film, and even more fantastic transfer to Blu-ray. Never saw the film before, nor the SD DVD edition; bought it on a whim after seeing the actors in it. Extraordinarily good acting, high production values, far above average BD transfer.

NOW, if "they" would only release a comparably good BD of "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" (1970, MGM/UA) - it would be perfection for Baker Street Irregulars!

Updated for Blu-ray release (DVD review included as well)
Finally receiving a Blu-ray release courtesy of Shout! Factory, "The Seven Percent Solution" mixes the fictional with the historical for a fascinating glimpse into what made Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes click.

The Blu-ray transfer looks exceptional with a nice, color accurate presentation of the film. Colors aren't saturated as that wasn't the look that director Herbert Ross was going for with solid looking skin tones. Blacks are solid throughout as well not suffering from the crush evident in the early DVD release. The film boasts a fairly clean, sleek presentation that doesn't rely too heavily on digital noise reduction and, as a result, the textures are solid throughout as well.

The Blu-ray does include an interview with author and screenwriter Nicholas Meyer discussing the genesis of the novel and the film. It's a very good interview giving us his thoughts on the project. I would imagine that we don't get a commentary track because Meyer wasn't...

Ticks

When in doubt......SQUISH!!
This is a classic! A must see, especially if you're fed up with all the glossed-over high-tech films out there today, who think they're so cool just because they have things like "computer animation" and "acting". For entertainment value, this movie is right up there with Pirrana and R.O.T.O.R! That's a compliment, by the way. It is a great B-movie packed with stars: Seth Green, that guy from Fresh Prince of Bell Air, and Clint Howard, brother of director Ron Howard, who delivers an Oscar-calibre performance with "Dude, you all messed up!" My favorite part was when the giant tick egg sack was attached to the girl's back and Seth Green ingeniously saves her by (after much suspense) hitting it with a stick.
Of course, the best scene in the movie is when one of the giant ticks is set loose in a vet's office and after they try valiantly but unsuccessfully to capture it with a fishtank net, the vet stomps on it, and the tick explodes into HIGHLY...

GET TICKED OFF
TICKS is a creepy crawly extravaganza with amazingly good creature effects for an obvious low budget movie. The plot's fairly simple: a marijuana farmer, played with devilish glee by Clint Howard, is using herbal steroids to increase his marijuana output. Some of the steroidal juice however manages to infest a tick larva and soon all the ticks are growing bigger and bigger, nastier and nastier. Enter a group of troubled teens, led by Rosalind Allen and Peter Scolari, who are off for a camping adventure right near the infested area. Soon the ticks are running around chomping on everyone.
For a run of the mill horror movie, this one is above average in its fright scale and in its effects. I expected something much worse and was pleasantly, if not creepily, surprised!!!!

everybody thinks im a whoose because this movie scared me!
i really liked this movie.and my worst fear is bugs so this one scared the hell outta me.and this movie is packed with gore and violence.gross, but cool.like when the doctor steps on the tick and all it's guts come gushing out and then they take out it's insides...up close! the camera is so close to the tick.i wanted to throw up.and im a real fan of Seth Green so this is my movie!some good scares too.I'll warn you,DONT EAT WHILE WATCHING THIS MOVIE! unless you want to throw up.i almost did.after i watched this movie,i was freaked out.now im afraid to step on the floor or go outside, afraid that some giant ticks will eat me! and get inside my skin and eat my insides like in the movie.if you like gore and violence, see this movie.i dont think there could be any other movie grosser than this.it's grosser than friday the 13th! i thought that was the grossest movie i'd ever saw but not anymore.and it had Ami Dolenz and im a big fan of her,too

Samurai Banners

Good War Epic
I liked this movie a lot. It may not have the depth of a Kurosawa samurai epic. But the film's director, Hiroshi Inagaki was no slouch. Anyone who's seen his other movies (Chushingura, Samurai Trilogy, just to name a few) knows he's very adept at handling sweeping dramas with large casts of characters.

The Japanese title of this movie is Furinkazan which refers to the Kanji characters on the banner flown by the Takeda clan. It describes the military strategy of the clan's leader, Shingen - swift as the wind (fu), quiet as a forest (rin), aggressive like fire (ka), and stable like a mountain (zan). I guess that's a little too much to put in an English title!

The battle scenes in this movie are pretty good. But I also liked the story of unrequitted love involving two of the main characters, Kansuke Yamamoto and Princess Yu. Toshiro Mifune plays Kansuke, an actual historical figure who was a military strategist for the Takeda clan. Yoshiko Sakuma gives a spirited performance as the...

More drama then war.
I am bit surprised to read the two previous reviews. The AnimEigo edition of Samurai Banners proves to be well presented and its subtitles with its different colors to see who's talking proves to be one of the highlights. This movie got excellent subtitles!! Maybe that reviewer who didn't get the subtitles should check his DVD player. He may have turned something off.

I enjoyed watching Samurai Banners despite of its 163 minutes or so length and the fact that its more of a samurai drama film with a war theme then anything else. Toshiro Mifune who have been considered as Japan's verison of John Wayne is well cast in this movie as it followed the destiny of the Takeda clan through many campaigns. For those who may care, Takeda clan also featured in the film, Kagamusha. Mifune's character, Yamamoto Kansuke (real historical figure), joined the clan, and it helped lead it to many victories, gaining the trust and confidence of his lord and along the way, fall in love with his...

A Superb Samurai Period Film
This superb period film does not make the mistake of concentrating on either of the two warring lords Takeda and/or Kagetora but instead focus' on Takeda's most celebrated general Kansuke Yamamoto (Toshiro Mifune), who was the brain behind the victories anyway. His story is much more interesting, both as one of a man driven by a wildly ambitious dream, and also one consumed with tragic love. On either level this film works wonders.

Set in Japan between 1543 and 1562 (the period of Warring States) SAMURAI BANNERS is an epic film! The costumes are impeccable, the film is engrossing and I didn't even realize it was almost three hours long. The battles are nicely done, but not overindulging. (For people who come for the violent samurai films, SAMURAI BANNERS will be sure to disappoint.) Toshiro Mifune is great, even with a shaved head!

The English subtitles by AnimEgo were superb, probably one of the best I've seen, they even had different colors for different...

Frontier Horizon

"The Three Mesquiteers Series ... New Frontier (1939) ... Republic"
Republic Pictures presents "NEW FRONTIER" (10 August 1939) (57 mins/B&W) (Fully Restored/Dolby Digitally Remastered) -- The series was based on a series of western novels by William Colt MacDonald, which began with "Law of the .45's" in 1933 --- The Three Mesquiteers is the umbrella title for a series of 51 western B-movies released between 1936 and 1943, including 8 films starring John Wayne --- The name was a play on The Three Musketeers, and each film featured a trio of stars --- The series blended the traditional Western period with more modern elements, which was not unknown with other B-Western films and serials --- Towards the end of the series, during World War II, the trio of cowboys were opposing Nazis --- The Three Mesquiteers series was extremely popular at the time of its release --- The series was the only one of its kind to be specifically named and ranked in contemporary polls of the top western film stars --- For example, from 1937 to the end of the series in 1943,...

New Frontier (1939) AKA Frontier Horizon
New Frontier was the original theatrical title for this film. Frontier Horizon was the title used for TV syndication to distinguish the 1939 film from Wayne's earlier, 1935, film of the same title. They are not the same story, but Republic occasionally reused titles for different scripts. This film has location work at the movie ranch, now a public park, once owned by Ray Corrigan. If you know the film, you can go to the park, which is in Simi Valley, and spot the locations. The big rock with the hole in it is there, but the hole is covered with brush. The film material is very good. For fans of the early Wayne films at Republic, grab them while they are available in new transfers.

Here the mesquiteers go again!
John Wayne, Ray Corrigan and Raymond Hatton are one of the best trigger trios ever namely the Three Mesquiteers. The print is good and sharp and there are lots of riding, fighting and shooting. Some seconds of the action and stunts are fill-ins from older movies and that's a bit irritating but one can live with it. It is always a pleasure to see great actors like Leroy Mason, Eddy Waller, Jack Ingram and many more. Billed under her real name Phyllis Isley, you are witness to the film debut of Jennifer Jones. And then it is a bit funny to think that this b-western is from the same year that Wayne starred in John Ford's Stagecoach.

Bad Channels

LOW BUDGET MOVIE IS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD
Another low budget Charles Band production, this ranks as one of his more enjoyable offerings. An alien named Cosmo (NOT SEINFELD's Kramer)is posing as a radio DJ and captures women, shrinks them and puts them on display in glass jars. So it's up to the real DJ shock jock Dan O'Dare and TV reporter Lisa Cummings to stop them. Though Dan isn't easily persuaded to begin with (he humiliates Cummings live on air when she claims to have seen a UFO) both soon find themselves warning the other townsfolk of the imminent danger, but, as in all B movies they are arrested, ridiculed etc. It doesn't take a genius to figure what the outcome will be, but it is quite entertaining. A sequel of sorts followed DOLLMAN VS THE DEMONIC TOYS, which is itself a sequel to (naturally) DOLLMAN and DEMONIC TOYS. Keep your eyes peeled for heavy rock group Blue Oyster Cult and the wierdo band featuring some goon dressed as a cow.

War of the Worlds Tribute
If you are a War of the Worlds fan, this movie is a must have. It's hilarious as it makes fun of the original radio broadcast by having the radio station taken over by an alien.

It's not about the film, it's all about the slam-dancing nun
This video is worth it strictly for the video with the SLAM-DANCING NUN and THE DUDE IN THE COW SUIT (complete with utters.)

Method To The Madness of Jerry Lewis

A Fitting Tribute To A Comedy Legend: This Film Made Me Go Back And Rewatch The Lewis Classics
When I was growing up, I got to know Jerry Lewis through reruns of his classic movies and through the annual Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day telethon. His goofiness was amusing enough, but I don't think I ever fully understood his impact. I've respected some of his more serious work in later years (Scorsese's The King of Comedy, TV's Wiseguy), but honestly haven't given his legacy much thought. When I saw that Encore was premiering a documentary entitled "Method To The Madness Of Jerry Lewis," I thought it might be a bit of nostalgic fun. What I wasn't prepared for, however, was how much it would it would teach me about Lewis and his accomplishments. As a man and as an actor, Gregg Barson's engaging tribute really highlights what was (and is) special about everyone's favorite clown. Anyone with an interest in Lewis should thoroughly enjoy this retrospective.

The film does a good job presenting a well rounded portrait of the entertainer. We get to learn about his history...

Don't forget me
The 2011 documentary METHOD TO THE MADNESS OF JERRY LEWIS caused me to look up just how long it's been since I saw a new movie Jerry Lewis directed or in which he acted. As I write this in 2013, it's been thirty years since Lewis was the director-star of the film CRACKING UP, his last feature unless you count small roles here and there.

Thirty years! Now, since then Jerry Lewis's charitable work and television appearances have kept him in the limelight and there probably isn't a minute per day where one of his films isn't playing somewhere on television. But viewing METHOD TO THE MADNESS OF JERRY LEWIS, you may realize that while it's not as though the public doesn't remember Lewis, some may have forgotten about his talent as a performer and filmmaker.

But don't take my word for it, especially with Steven Spielberg, Eddie Murphy, Carol Burnett, Carl Reiner, Chevy Chase, Jerry Seinfeld, and Quentin Tarantino among the Lewis fans who remind us of his...

Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis
Amazing ! Amazing! Amazing! If you are Jerry Lewis fan,or just need to understand what this legend represents to the film industry...buy this DVD.Such special footage and wonderful memories are captured in this two hour documentary! This is a DVD I will cherish forever ....

Ivan's Childhood (Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]

There are not many filmmakers who are able to hit a grand slam for their first film. But Andrei Tarkovsky did it with this film
For every filmmaker, there is the debut of that first film.

There are people and film critics that would say that the first film shows hints of what a filmmaker could be. Some are just bad and the filmmaker tries to distance themselves from it. Some are so popular that the filmmaker who loathes the popularity switches their style. And then are those who are able to hit a grand slam and create a masterpiece.

For Soviety and Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky (who would go on to directed the films "Solaris", "Andrei Rublev", "The Sacrifice", "The Mirror"), his debut film from 1962 titled "Ivan's Childhood", based on Vladimiri Bogomolov's 1957 short story, would be considered a masterpiece.

A film that achieved critically acclaim and the winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, the film would achieve praise from filmmakers such as Ingmar Bergman, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Sergei Parajanov and a few others.

But what made "Ivan's...

Perfect
Like all Tarkovsky's films this is far more than entertainment, it's art. Combine that with a perfect transfer from Criterion and you cant ask for more.

tunnel vision
Tunnel vision was a good movie good plot but it didn't play in my blue ray player I had to play it on a standard DVD player other than that I was pleased with the movie

Great movie!
I'm from New Castle, PA where the movie was shot. I missed it when it was in the theater and have been looking for a copy of the DVD for awhile now.

The acting is pretty good. It can be a little slow at times, but I think it fits the movie. I wouldn't consider it an action movie, more of a dark drama. The setting for the movie couldn't have been better, not because I was born in New Castle, but because New Castle is a drab and dark place especially in the winter when this movie is set. I watched it twice the night I got it. It was fun picking out people I knew and what places were shown.

-Charlie

Loved it!
All the right elements came together in this fun, suspenseful independent thriller. The work and dedication of the cast and crew is apparent at every turn.

Cujo [Blu-ray]

Cujo finally gets his reward!!!!! 2013 Blu Ray UPDATE
I have waited a looooooong time to see this film get the special treatment it deserved. For years, the only way I had to view this classic horror treat was on an old DVD release with cropped edges, horrible picture, and NO special features at all.....not to mention the ugliest DVD artwork ever for a Stephen King release.

Lionsgate has now given us Cujo as it has never been seen on home video. I was blown away by how clear the picture is, and how vibrant the colors are. The old transfer just seemed washed out and faded. I watched this on my PS3, which upscales it to hi-def, and I never dreamed this film could ever look this good. I'm also glad that there was no effort to try to create a surround sound track for this film, since most of it takes place inside a car. You have the choice of watching it in the original mono, or a 2 channel stereo mix. While this is not a film I would choose to show off my surround system, it is very effective for what is happening on...

What is up with this cover art?
Actually a fairly good Stephen King translation, I remember being genuinely frightened a few times when this played theatrically. But my fondest memory of the movie was its poster: a beautiful sun-bleached drawing of a very east-coast summer house, surrounded by a picket fence splattered with blood in the form of Cujo's name. Warner home video used this artwork when intially releasing the video over a decade ago, and now? This picture of a clownish lip-sticked overly-reddened St. Bernard and his teeth is clearly not even a shot from the movie! I have always questioned/doubted the wisdom of revisionist cover-art for video releases, but this one takes the cake as the most artless piece of junk I've ever seen.

A Claustraphobe's Nightmare!
If I had read the book first I would have probably known what I was in for when I sat down to watch this movie. I have a deeply rooted fear of confined spaces and possibly an even bigger fear of being eaten. So basically, this movie scared me to no end! Now I have to admit much of the story (and acting) moved along fairly slowly, until the mother and son were stuck in the middle of nowhere, in a station wagon, with a large, rabid Saint Bernard attempting to get inside! It was this portion of the movie that got my skin crawling! When Cujo starts attacking the car and you just get this feeling that nobody is getting out of there alive, that's good Horror entertainment! Strangely enough I never felt that Cujo should die or that he was a "monster". I just kept thinking that all of us are victims of circumstance, and not one of us has control over the events in our lives. That concept alone is terrifying! The acting of the mother and son were perfect and I'd...

Searching for Sugar Man [Blu-ray]

It can happen to you if you're young at heart
The most striking thing of the many striking things in Searching for Sugar Man is the personality of Rodriguez himself. Unspoiled, not bitter, undimmed perceptions, and the continued passion for his craft all make a huge imprint on the viewer. And of course, it is all the more impressive because he spent 30 years in demolition and cleanup instead of filling our minds and souls with his remarkable music. The story is too crazy to be made up; no one would see it if it were a piece of fiction, unless it was written by Kurt Vonnegut or Douglas Adams. But it is a true story, a gripping story, and a rewarding story. The story of a wonderful human being and a remarkable father. A feel good documentary which alone makes it a near impossibility. There is only one qualifier you will notice again and again in reference to Searching for Sugar Man: must see.

Stranger than fiction: a MUST-SEE documentary
"Searching for Sugar Man" (2012 release; 85 min.) brings the unlikely but true story of how, Rodriguez, an obscure American musician who released 2 never-heard albums in the early 1970s became a music sensation in South Africa. As a music nerd, this became even more compelling as I will admit I had never heard of Rodriguez before.

The first half of the movie centers around the efforts of two South African men in the music business, both fan of and curious about the mysterious Rodriguez to simply find out more about this guy. The movie then traces the beginnings of Rodriguez in the late 60s in Detroit (with archive footage of the city at that time, not much better than it is now, just haunting) and how Rodriguez's 1970 debut album "Cold Fact" first became an underground hit in South Africa at the height of the apartheid regime (with songs like "The Establishment Blues") and eventually became a genuine hit album. It is about midway through the movie that we are introduced to...

Amazing Story
As a South African raised, with almost all my friends, on the music of Rodriguez it is almost impossible to believe that such a talent remained unrecognised in his home country.
This film goes some way to explaining it, but only some way. See it and buy "Cold Fact"; better late than never.

Imaginary Friend

LACEY DID GREAT
this movie is AWESOME! never saw the twist coming. definately left me wondering if the little girl was real or not! GREAT BUY FOR SURE.

Oh yeah, its a Lifetime movie!
Smacks in the mouth? Check! Cheating husbands? Check! Betrayal? Check! Oh yeah, it's a Lifetime movie. I love to bag on Lifetime and their man hating ways but they do occasionally manage to put forth an entertaining effort. Luckily, Imaginary Friend is one of those films. Starring the ever lovely Lacey Chabert, Imaginary Friend has pretty much an all-star cast. Everyone does fine in their roles especially Lacey Chabert and Ethan Embry.

The story line has twists galore but despite that the whole movie is pretty well telegraphed from the beginning. And once the twist occurs that is telegraphed as well, sigh. But watching the whole affair play out is quite fun and the actors make it worth watching simply to enjoy their performances. There a couple of pretty massive plot holes however, and you can put together what happened but you shouldn't have to as it would have been pretty easy to touch on them at the end of the film. But let's be honest, you can't stay mad at a film...

It's okay
I thought this movie was just okay. The story is pretty average and very predictable. I found myself feeling bored many times as the movie will drag on and on. Then, I would be predicting what is going to happen next as it was happening.

The only real thing I liked about the movie is the main actresses as she is so super hot. If she wasn't in the movie, I would give this 2 stars inside because she was the only reason I was continuing to watch it.

I don't have anything else interesting to really say about this movie besides, that I felt it wasn't really scary, suspenseful, or thrilling. I don't recommend this movie.

Trancers

Eerily Entertaining Sci-Fi Movie
"What kind of name is Peter Gunn?" "What kind of name is Jack Deth?" is just one of the memorable lines you will see in this low budget 1985 cult thriller "Trancers," starring the ever reliable Tim Thomerson and a struggling Helen Hunt. "Trancers" spawned five sequels, all of which never quite duplicated the fun of the original. I saw somewhere on the Internet that Thomerson is the "King of the B movies," but "Trancers" is the one film he made that stands head and shoulders above all others. If you draw a blank with the name "Tim Thomerson," you most likely saw him in a few bigger budget pictures, such as "Air America, "Uncommon Valor," and "Who's Harry Crumb?" He's done television work as well, appearing on "Xena" and "The Days of Our Lives." Once you recognize Thomerson, you'll remember his appearance in numerous films. Helen Hunt should need no introduction, but the fact that she appears in this low budget film is oddly jarring. Hunt went on to appear in two "Trancers" sequels...

Trancers DVD Huge Letdown
After waiting years for a excellent copy of one of my favorite movies, I was very disappointed when I received this in the mail. First of all, this is advertised as WIDESCREEN when it is NOT! There is no Widescreen version of this available. There is also no full moon featurette on trancers either. secondly, halfway thru the movie I notice the screen going black for a couple of seconds. No biggie.. Later, after the end credits come up, The Vestron Video Logo comes on, then it says END OF SIDE TWO!!! This DVD is nothing but a copy of the Laser disc transfer that Vestron did quite a few years ago. The quality of the print is not very good, color is weak and images not very sharp, with the film having several cig. burns in it.Come on Full Moon, get your act together, and spend a few bucks to do this movie justice. I would much rather see a widescreen version of this than any of the other so called sequels..One nice note, the flip-side of the DVD does have over 40 trailers for...

Jack Deth is BACK!
And he's never even been here before! Classic quotable ad line for the cult hit Trancers back when it played in theaters in 1985. Yeah, Trancers really played the big screen venues back before video ate up the grindhouse theater chains that booked these exploitive little trash movie gems. Charles Band (of Full Moon fame) created his own little movie studio, the now defunct Empire Pictures, which scored a megahit with Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator and, from 1983 until 1988 (or 89), released many a great piece of low rent cinema, Trancers being one the tiny studio's bigger non-Stuart Gordon hits (Ghoulies was the other one).

Jack Deth is an Angel City cop tracking down the last few Trancers, people who have become mental zombies enslaved to their psychic leader Whistler, who Deth singed (slang for dispatch revolver style) on one of the 'Rim Worlds'. But it turns out that Whistler is not dead, he has gone 'down the line' to wipe out the current Angel City Council members family...

End of Watch

Good Cop, Good Cop
Directed by David Ayer, "End of Watch" is a police drama that celebrates the value of friendship and the all too frequently unsung efforts of police officers to try to keep the rest of us free from the violence and evil the officers constantly endure. The movie is set on a rough police beat in South Central Los Angeles and follows the activities of two young officers, Brian Taylor (Jake Gyllenhall) and Mike Zavala (Michael Pena) as they cruise the streets and fight crime. Some scenes of the movie take place in the police academy or the stationhouse and show the cameraderie among the men and the women in uniform.

The movie is a mix of introspection and action. Brian and Mike depend upon each other for their lives, and they are fast friends. As they drive the streets they discuss their families, their respective ethnicities and backgrounds, their dreams and their women. Mike has been married to his high school sweetheart for eight years, while Brian has found a new romantic...

Great Movie!!! Very Real!!!
First of all, let me say that I am not a professional movie critic. So, I am just going to evaluate the movie based on my personal experience and enjoyability of the film. This film was phenomenal. It was very well directed. The plot was very credible and for those working on law enforcement, it will seem too accurate. The actors nailed it. It was also filmed like "Cloverfield", to make you believe that you are part of the action as a first person viewer. That was my only complaint. Since, this type of filming seems to give me headaches. Overall, I would give this film 5 stars based on the following: enjoyability, credibility, acting, costumes/clothing, special effects and plot delivery/transition and conclusion. This is not your typical "happy ending" cop movie. So, if you want a happy ending fake cop movie, do not bother watching this one. Great movie, overall. Very well portrayed.

A you-are-there, gut wrenching cop drama
If you ever wanted to know what it was like to be a beat cop in L. A. without the danger, this David Ayer film may be as close as you'll get. Shot in the overused "found footage" style, we get a tension filled action drama with excellent character development and sense of realism. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena give memorable performances as partners who are also best friends and confidants, each inviting the other into their extended families.

Officers Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Zavala (Pena) are hot shot cops who want to do more than make traffic arrests while patrolling a mixed gang section of L. A. Sometimes heroic (rescuing children from a burning house or from an abusive home) and sometimes foolish (not waiting for backup) they manage to stumble upon an arm of a Mexican cartel involved in human trafficking. Taylor is filming everything as a project for a class he is taking at a local college. In addition to using a small traditional HD camera, he attaches mini...

Witch's Brew

HorrorNews.net Review
When Jeff Ducker (Chris Magorian) and Preston Oakley (Gary-Kayi Fletcher), a pair of friends who run their own micro-brewery, accidentally run over a black cat that attempts to cross their paths, they go to the owners home with the best of intentions. Unfortunately for them, the animal belonged to a coven of witches, and the eldest witch, Brynn (Helenmary Ball), doesn't take kindly to the boys' peace offering of beer. She curses their freshly brewed batch of Slacker Lager, proclaiming "After you drink that beer, liver damage is going to be the least of your problems!"

The superstitious Jeff wants nothing to do with the supposedly cursed ale, but Preston insists that they sell it as planned. They deliver cases to local bars, liquor stores, friends and more. As the characters drink the alcohol, they drop like flies after suffering awful deaths. Witch's Brew is something like a (slightly) less bizarre version of Street Trash, although it's just as fun on most accounts...

Pretty Awesome
I went into this movie not knowing what to expect and came out loving it. I had the privilege of seeing it in the theaters, but can't wait to pick the dvd. If you like beer, boobs, and horror then this is the flick..

Horror Comedy on a Low Budget at it's Best!
I had the pleasure of seeing this movie on the big screen when it debuted at the Charles Theater in Baltimore. It's well written, the gags work, and the effects are done very well considering the tiny budget. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed!

Beauty is Embarrassing: The Wayne White Story

An Entertaining Documentary Portrait Enhanced By A Bounty Of Valuable DVD Extras
As I sat down to watch "Beauty Is Embarrassing: The Wayne White Story," I really had no idea who Wayne White was. Within one minute, however, I discovered that I absolutely knew who Wayne White was! I've been a fan of his for more years than I can count, I simply had no idea. White's resume is lengthy and impressive. He works across many artistic realms and can alternately and simultaneously be called a puppeteer, a designer, a sculptor, a painter, and even a musician. "Beauty Is Embarrassing" is a modestly scaled documentary that serves as an effective introduction to the man and his contributions and/or as a tribute if you are already familiar with his work. It's a relatively intimate affair that gets up close and personal with White and family as they embark on new projects. In addition to these moments at home, we see a cross section of his work, interviews with his friends, co-workers, and those in the artistic community. And there is no denying that, despite his...

Prepare to be INSPIRED
I'll make this short. If you have an artistic bone in your body, you will probably love this movie. Nothing is more inspiring than seeing an artist who is true to themselves, is able to capture their uniqueness in their work and who's is appreciated by their audience on a level that they deserve. This is one of those storys about a person who's work you may know, but who's face you would probably not recognize. Growing up watching Pee Wee's playhouse influenced me deeply as a kid - little did I know that Wayne White is responsible for a lot of the content and visual elements that stimulated my young brain. His freedom of expression is downright inspiring, and pure of heart.

This Film is Not Embarrassing
Though not as famous as some other artists of his generation, Wayne White's voice is as authentic and personal as any. This film takes the reader on a raucous romp through White's life as told by the artist himself. Funny, lyrical and highly entertaining, watching this movie should make anyone want to leap off the couch and start making art! Highly recommended.

A Thousand Cuts [Blu-ray]

Just smoke and mirrors!
This movie is long on conversation, acting and drama. To spice things up a bit, the viewer is lead to belive that there will be some violence, torture, gore and even nudity happening soon. If you are hoping to see any of those things in this movie, you will be disappointed. This is more of a slow paced psychological drama centered on the morality of making movies nowdays that are "slasher/torture/porn" type. It is a good movie with good coversations dealing with this subject, but has little action, yet alot of anticipation.

CLIFF NOTES AREN'T BOOKS?
This is NOT a slasher film, it is a psychological thriller/drama. Lance Ross (Michael A. Newcomer) is a shallow Hollywood horror film director/writer who loves his sister. He has made a film franchise known as "A Thousand Cuts" based on an ancient oriental torture technique. As life imitates art, so it was. Oklahoma rube Frank (Michael O'Keefe) had a daughter who was a victim of the technique. He blames Lance and decides to have his revenge.

What I liked about the film was the crisp dialouge during the party. The characters were colorful. Frank, who comes across as a rube, has done his homework as he plans ahead. I expected a twist at the end more complex than what I got, i.e. Frank really being an actor hired by Lance's sister (Olesya Rulin) as that is where it appeared this thing was going and wish they would re-shoot the ending to suit me...but that won't happen.

The film does not contain any real torture scenes. There are glimpses of a torture victim (Madi...
